TRIVIA NIGHT RECAP

On Wednesday, January 31, EDUA hosted its first social event of 2024 - TRIVIA NIGHT! The theme of the trivia was “2023” as a way to look back at the previous year. About 40 teachers gathered at Be Silly Restaurant in Vinohrady to compete for the winning prize. While the teams were being formed, Be Silly brought our snacks and drinks: Belgian Beers! When it was time to begin, the quiz was broken into 4 sections: International News, Local News, Sports, and Entertainment. The questions ranged from Who was the newly elected President of the Czech Republic to What was the Oxford word of the year for 2023? (Petr Pavel / Rizz). 2 teams tied for 2nd place - so the tie breaker question needed to be asked! Once the 2nd place spot was secured, it was time to announce the winning team “It’s A Disaster” and deliver their prize of an EDUA swag bag, including a voucher to Luxor. But the 2nd and 3rd place winners didn’t go home empty handed: they were gifted with EDUA socks and the EDUA Dobble game. The teams stayed past 10pm, enjoying time with their new teammates, and catching up with colleagues on other teams.

Even though 2024 has already started, we hope you haven't forgotten all about 2023. Why? Because our first EDUA social event is 2023 Trivia Night

Join us at Be Silly Restaurant (Korunní 1251/48, 120 00 Vinohrady) for a night of 2023 reflection. You can expect questions about all topics from 2023: news, music, sports, entertainment, etc.

As always, there will be light snacks, and welcome drinks....and the winning team gets a prize, of course!

Please RSVP by Monday, January 29th to confirm your spot in Trivia Night!

EDUA Christmas Party

On Tuesday, 6th December 2022 at 6:30pm, EDUA hosted the first Christmas party since the Covid-19 outbreak and what a merry

time was had by all! Hosted at Café NONA in the Národní area, about 120 teachers came to celebrate, joined by members of the Academic, HR, Library, Course Coordination, Course Management, and Reception teams. The food spread consisted of 15 kilos of schnitzel, 10 kilos of potato salad, 12 kilos of ham, vegetarian options, cakes and fruit.

Food was not the only thing consumed - the open bar stayed open till midnight! The annual Christmas cookie competition was also back in full swing with nine entries, with the winning cookie belonging to Bariyat Magomedova. Nothing was lacking at this year's party, even in the entertainment area. Lucia Radecká was the singer for the evening, and producing a few laughs on stage was our own ST and local comedian, Tanner LeTourneau.

Tanner joked about being a teacher, correcting errors, and even gave his own version of what EDUA stands for. It was a great evening to reconnect with colleagues, meet some new ones, and end the year on a high note. We can’t wait to see what events are in store for 2023!

Movie Night - August 12th

On Wednesday, 12.8, about 15 Edua teachers and staff gathered for an Outdoor Movie night at the MeetFactory Outdoor Summer Cinema in the Smichov area. The movie that was featured was Captain Fantastic - a 2016 movie about a family raised in the wilderness, completely isolated from normal society. The movie shows their reintroduction into society, after the death of the children’s mother. Prior to the movie, MeetFactory showed a series of artistic short films, and while the cinema was open to the public - our group snacked on popcorn provided by the EDUA team. The movie lasted about 2 hours, and the weather was perfect for sitting outside watching from our chairs and big bean bags.

If you want to attend our September Event, make sure to check your email as well as the facebook page “EDUA Group Teachers” for the announcement of our “Back to School” Event.

EDUA Picnic

On Wednesday, 3rd of June, EDUA hosted an informal picnic for teachers. The picnic started at 5:00pm, and immediately included teachers of Czech and English. While the EDUA staff provided food and drinks, all those who attended also brought food to share. The teachers (of various languages) brought strawberry scones, Macaroni and Cheese, muffins, breads, mini pizzas and more.  The group (about 25 people) survived the first 2 hours with no rain, and then, instead of going home - decided to huddle together under a large tree before eventually continuing on to a local pub.

Harry Potter Valentine's Pop-Up

On February 14th, EDUA group hosted a Pop-Up Event at the Karlin School. While many people were expecting to see a celebration for Valentine’s Day, we wanted to incorporate another reason to celebrate - Harry Potter.

On February 14, 2002, Harry Potter premiered for the first time in the Czech Republic. So, we decided to mix this anniversary with the traditional Valentine’s Holiday. We used the area in front of the library to set up our spontaneous event. Displayed on the television in front of the library, we showed the Harry Potter movies (in English) throughout the day, starting with the first movie. The hall was decorated with both Harry Potter décor as well as valentine’s decorations.

For snacks we had popcorn, served in Harry Potter popcorn boxes, and heart shaped cookies. A box full of Harry Potter themed valentines was set out for everyone to take and pass out to their students/colleagues/friends. From “I think you are wand-erful”, “You are my favorite Muggle”, to “I Dumble-adore you”, and “On a scale from 1 – 10, you’re a 9 ¾ ”, almost all of the valentines were gone by the end of the day.

We also had a competition set up, a jar filled of gummy bears. Everyone had a chance to write down how many gummy bears they thought were in the jar – they actual amount was 207! We gave the gummy bear prize to John Thorburn who guessed the closest, he was only 22 bears away from the exact amount! The full event started at 9am, and throughout the day, the hallway was filled with teachers and their students watching the movies, and enjoying the snacks.

Christmas Party 2019

This year our Christmas party happened in Café Nona on Wednesday December 4, 2019. It was the biggest party ever - we had 187 people attending. The night was informal, with no official program, as we wanted teachers and internal staff to mingle, talk, and just enjoy themselves.

The popular cookie contest let everyone taste Christmas cookies prepared by our teachers and staff from the Academic Department. The prize winning cookies were provided by Nataša Van Wyk. We also encouraged people to come dressed in their best Christmas outfits, which resulted in the craziest outfit to be awarded to our own Academic Assistant Alice Vlachová. She joyfully accepted the award wearing her hand-made Christmas mantelpiece costume.

You can see all the pictures from the evening here: http://bit.ly/EDUA_Christmas_Party_2019

Fiesta del Día de Muertos

2019 was the first year in which we celebrated this Mexican holiday. Our senior teacher Isaac Cordova opened the evening by telling us more about the night and the customs connected with it.

The menu consisted of pan de muerto and skull cookies. The traditional celebration also includes hot chocolate but we enjoyed a variety of other drinks and refreshments. Enjoy the pictures.
